Chapter One: Collision
Deep within the vastness of space, half a light-year from Earth, a large meteor hurtled its way across the stars. It looked to be made of ordinary rock, but there were actually small traces of some other mineral inside – something green and glowing.
Flying around the meteor was a caped figure clad in red, yellow and blue. He was handsome, with jet-black hair and deep brown eyes. This was Superman, a hero from the city of Metropolis, AKA Clark Kent, reporter for the Daily Planet and Smallville-raised farm boy.
The meteor was on what looked to be a collision course with a lush, obviously inhabited planet. Superman was determined to stop it from doing any damage.
Herein was the problem: those green traces were the mineral people have come to know as Kryptonite, the only remains of Superman’s home planet of Krypton. The mineral emitted a radiation deadly to him; however, he couldn’t just let it hit the planet.
Superman kept his distance while he tried to figure out how to handle the situation, for he felt weak every time he got too close to the meteor.
Pushing it out of the way was out of the question. The Kryptonite would burn his hands even if he could get close to it. Air wouldn’t travel in space, so he couldn’t blow it out of the way, either.
The seconds ticked closer to collision and Superman was running out of options. He finally decided that there was only one thing he could do.
Positioning himself between the meteor and the planet, he flew as hard and as fast as he could towards the enormous, Kryptonite-laced rock. He knew this probably wasn’t exactly the smartest thing to do, but it was the right thing to do.
Superman shut his eyes tightly and clenched his fists. He and the meteor collided violently, sending chunks of Kryptonite and rock flying in all directions. He winced in pain as the Kryptonite bit into his flesh, but he still kept on busting up the large, dangerous chunks. With more Kryptonite floating around him, Superman began to weaken. Soon, with the last chunk, the force of the blow propelled him towards the planet, barely conscious.
As he fell through the atmosphere, his body started to heat up, along with the chunks of irradiated rocks that were around him. Superman careened towards the planet surface, with nothing to break his fall.
End chapter one.
