Trivia and In-Jokes
About the Story:
It all started with a dream. I had this awesome dream that all of AL’s guys
were kidnapped and brought together in one room. Only they were all how they
appear today, instead of how they looked when they were together. There was
Luke, the Fifth and Eighth Doctors, Data (with a mustache and without his pale
skin) and Clark (both Dean Cain and Tom Welling). We were in a house and
there were these guys with a lot of computer stuff. They brought me inside and I
went to each of the guys, hugging and comforting them. I don’t remember how,
but, eventually time or something was reversed on them and they returned to how
they were supposed to look. I remember arguing with someone, but I can’t
remember about what.
When I woke up, I wanted to write it out as a story. And, so
Infusion was born. I had no idea who would be kidnapping the guys or aging
them, let alone why, but I finally decided it would be the descendants of the
Warlords. I figured that, maybe, they stole some technology from other species.
I thought about them stealing the Timescoop and all that equipment from what was
left of the Time Lords after the Time War. I stuck with Dean Cain only for
Clark, and left out the bit about Data having a mustache and a normal skin tone.
I added Adam in just because I felt like it and Erik would be with AL, anyway,
so he could join them.
Data gets taken out of his timeline before the events of Star
Trek: First Contact. Luke is taken after Return of the Jedi. Clark is
anytime during Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Adam is
taken during the later seasons of The Tomorrow People (between “Rameses
Connection” and “Living Stones”). The Eighth Doctor is taken after the movie, of
course, and the Fifth Doctor is taken sometime during his era. Erik is taken
after he’s reunited with AL in my story,
Return of an Old Friend, after
the movie. This is the first story in which AL doesn’t have a big part from the
beginning. Oh, and
why did none of the guys ask why Erik wore the mask? They had more things to
worry about and they didn’t care.
Chapter One:
Timescoop, Time Chart and Databank: The Timescoop was used in the
Doctor Who episode “The Five Doctors”. The Time Chart is from the audio
drama, “The Sirens of Time”. The Databank is mostly from the episode
“Castrovalva”.
Chapter Two:
The Timescoop being damaged in a big war: The Time War, from the 2005
season of Doctor Who.
Chapter Six:
He didn’t blink enough: This is also from “Sirens of Time”.
“What an unpleasant journey”: A line from the Doctor Who episode “The Ultimate Foe”.
Chapter Seven:
“Make it so.”: From Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Chapter Eight:
The banter between the two Doctors: It’s known that the Doctor’s
multiple incarnations do not get along well. The first lines are paraphrased
from “The Three Doctors”.
Chapter Nine:
English being Erik’s first language: This is a bit of artistic
license, since Gerard Butler is Scottish and in the movie when the Phantom
speaks, you can still hear a hint of the accent. I figure he’s smart enough to
learn French by ear or something.
Chapter Ten:
Lisa hating to be held down: This is, actually, my phobia. I panic
when someone keeps me from getting up.
Chapter Twelve:
Lisa being shot: This is a reference to my Early Edition
story, Stay With Me.
“I’ve done it before.”: A reference to the Doctor Who episode “Four to Doomsday”.
Chapter Fifteen:
Elixir of Life: This comes from an Aspiration Reward in The Sims 2.
Get enough points, and you can use the Elixir of Life, which increases a Sim’s
lifespan by three.
Chapter Nineteen:
“When you travel around as much as I do, it’s almost inevitable that
you’ll run into someone from your past at some point”: Is paraphrasing a
line from the Doctor Who episode “The Two Doctors”.
History repeating itself: This is a reference to the Doctor Who episode “Death to the Daleks”, in which a Dalek ship was blown up via a bomb brought inside by a member of a science team that had been on the planet.
The cone shifting to a black trapezoid: This is an homage to the original “The Five Doctors” serial first transmitted in 1983. The Timescoop effect was, originally, a flat black trapezoid effect before being made into the translucent cone-shaped thing – referred by Terrence Dicks as Casper the Friendly Ghost in the white sheet – we know in the special edition.
Luke’s promise: AL made Luke promise he’d visit her in spirit form (like Obi-Wan, Anakin and Yoda at the end of Return of the Jedi). He has kept his promise.
