Chapter Five: Homeward Bound

It had been a week since OckDoc’s appearance on Alnilam to help the Doctors repair the TARDIS’ chameleon circuit and they haven’t gotten it working yet. The last couple of days it had rained, though the sun was out, now, and almost everyone else was taking advantage of that.

Luke and AL were still on the couch in the living room, reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Hooks was curled up on AL’s lap, dozing.

OckDoc and the three Doctors came in through the front door, and they all plopped themselves down on the chairs in the living room.

AL looked up. “Problem, boys?”

The Fifth Doctor replied, “It’s still not working.”

“You’ve been at his for a week,” Luke observed.

“And,” said the Eighth Doctor, “I think we’re resigned to our fate…that the chameleon circuit is doomed to never work.”

“It’s rather disappointing,” said OckDoc.

“Cheer up,” was the Ninth Doctor’s opinion. “It’s not everyone who can say they’ve visited another planet and worked on an alien time machine.”

“And met unicorns,” concluded OckDoc. “Very true.” He glanced at the sleeping Hooks. “And others.” He gently petted him.

Hooks smiled and purred in his sleep.

AL scritched him behind one of his horns. “I think he’s used to you, now.”

“Yes,” said OckDoc. “I almost hate to leave.”

“You’re always welcome back, of course,” said Doc8.

“Yeah,” agreed AL. “Whenever you like. Even bring the others…though maybe bring a chaperone for MiniDamosCrawler. Or keep him on a leash.”

OckDoc laughed. “Yes, excellent point, though he’d just bimf off a leash.”

“You guys should get TeenDoc to invent an anti-bimfing agent.” She blinked. “Great Orion, did I just say that?”

Everyone laughed.

AL cleared her throat. “Well, there’s nothing saying you have to leave right away. Why don’t you stay for dinner? We’ll throw a little going away party, then you can head on home.”

OckDoc’s tentacles chattered excitedly and he laughed. “I believe that’s your answer. We’ll do that. Also, could I get some photographs of myself with the unicorns? To show everyone back home?”

“Sure.”
