Chapter Two: Have Portal, Will Create Chaos
It had been a quiet day. OckDoc had been helping the three Doctors with the TARDIS while everyone else was either enjoying the good weather, being a recluse in his room or upstairs perfecting poker skills. Luke, Hooks and AL were still trying to get through the sixth Harry Potter book in the living room when the Ninth Doctor and OckDoc emerged from outside. One of his tentacles, the one who’d taken it the night before – the lower right – was holding the Doctor’s sonic screwdriver.
“Hey guys,” AL said, briefly glancing up from the book. “How goes the repairs?”
“Fantastic!” smiled Doc9, heading for the kitchen for a glass of water.
“Lisa, that time machine of his is unbelievable!” was OckDoc’s opinion. The four metal, mechanical tentacles around him were waving excitedly, all giving their own opinions in thoughts only OckDoc and, because she’s telepathic, AL could hear.
AL, however, wasn’t quite used to it, yet. She held her head. “Whoa, whoa!” she said. “Slow down, you four. One at a time, one at a time!”
OckDoc quieted the tentacles’ excited mental chatter. “Sorry,” he said. “They’re very animated since seeing the bigger interior of the TARDIS versus the smaller exterior.” He called over to Doc9. “What did you call it again?”
“D’m’ns’nally tr’ns’nd’nt’l,” he said, mouth full of whatever he’d made himself to eat over there, muddling his words.
The tentacles mentally voiced their confusion at the muffled words and OckDoc looked to AL for a translation.
“Dimensionally transcendental,” she said. “Bigger on the inside than outside,” she clarified. “And, yeah, it’s really impressive when you see it for the first time. I always looked forward to seeing the faces of everyone who entered it.”
“I wish I could have something like that in the DeLorean,” said OckDoc, sitting on the arm of the couch. The tentacles chose to examine the photographs AL had on the fireplace mantle.
Father, one of them said, why do these horses have horns attached to their heads? AL, trying to remember which voice was whose, deciphered that higher-pitched voice as Tommy, the lower right tentacle, who was still holding the sonic screwdriver. AL was glad her own Tommy was outside at the moment, so there wouldn’t be any confusion.
“They’re not horses,” said AL. “Those are unicorns.”
This surprised OckDoc. “Great Scott!” he exclaimed. “Real unicorns?”
Hooks was the one who answered, still nervous about this strange human, but slowly getting over it. “Well, yeah. They’re all over the place on the other side of the forest.”
“You get used to it,” added Luke.
Lisa was amused at the disbelief yet longing in OckDoc’s face. “Hey, later today I’ll take you to meet them. How’s that?”
OckDoc’s delighted reply was cut short when a portal opened behind him. Through it, everyone could hear voices.
“I can see why Verne asked Alien Lisa if her wings were real. Probably reminded him of my harness.”
“That’s VultureMarty,” said OckDoc. “My Marty. That’s a portal to Vicky’s place.”
AL’s eyes went wide. “So that’s how you got here!”
OckDoc nodded. “Holly opened it.”
A girl’s voice spoke. “True, true.”
“That’s Vic,” OckDoc explained.
“Yay for no fanart pressure…and boo for being inspired while he’s gone.”
OckDoc took that opportunity to push his head, shoulders and one tentacle through the portal. “So, it’s when I leave that you get the urge to draw?”
There was a scream and a crash. “How are you doing that?!”
OckDoc’s arm movement indicated that he was pointing at someone or something, possibly the Holly he spoke of.
“How do you think he got to Alnilam?” said another girl’s voice. “I just learned the portal spell, so I figured that would work.”
Vic’s voice filtered through. “Ooookay…”
A young male’s voice sounded. He was shouting. “Not again! Get back here! Why is it whenever I try to repair you, you flee?!”
Suddenly, OckDoc was thrown back into AL’s side of the portal, followed by a strange, purple flying gizmo and a teenaged boy.
“Boys!” Vicky called. “You okay?!”
AL blinked at the newcomers, especially the boy. “What the…who are you?!”
OckDoc and the intruder stood, the boy gazing around in wonder. The gizmo was nowhere to be seen. “Lisa,” OckDoc said, “meet my 17-year-old Sparky self, TeenDoc. TeenDoc, Lisa.”
“Er,” TeenDoc stammered, “hi. Did you see a little purple clank fly by here?”
A purple blur flew past them and through the portal. Vicky called through, “Back on this side, TeenDoc!”
“Okay, sorry for the interruption. I’ll be…” His voice died away when he noticed the sonic screwdriver Tommy was holding. “What is that and how can I possess it?”
“Er,” said OckDoc, “sonic screwdriver?”
“Cool!” Somehow, he grabbed the screwdriver and ran back through the portal.
Doc9 saw the theft and gave chase. “Give that back!” Through the portal and into Vicky’s room.
Holly’s voice said, “This wasn’t mentioned in the instructions.”
“Oh boy,” said Vicky. “Uh, martyfan, can you have Jack and Daniel get Siler and his giant wrench? I think that’s the only way we’ll get it away from him.”
AL, Luke and Hooks all stared at each other. AL shrugged and said, “I told you this was a house of insanity.”
