Chapter One: Party PreparationAgain

Memorial Day 2007 was creeping up and that particular Friday prior to the holiday just happened to be a double anniversary date: for Star Wars and for Back to the Future Part III. As such, Alien Lisa (AL) and the guys in the blog were planning a big barbeque and party in celebration. Amongst the normal crew of AL, Hooks and her guys, TrilogyDoc, Marty and Clara from Doc’s Girl’s LiveJournal were also going to be in attendance.

There were things to do, places to go, people to kill…well, no, not that…before the party. They planned on having it on Memorial Day Monday, so everything had to be ready by then.

Meat was marinating and vegetables were blanching, pasta and potato salads were being mixed, dips were being made and snacks were being bought. Decorations were hanging and a huge charcoal grill (because AL is a charcoal snob and refuses to get a propane grill) was being prepped.

Clark and Data were lugging big bags of charcoal outside while the four Doctors were upstairs inside tinkering with the stereo sound system and Adam, Jesse, Tommy and Jack were out and about getting more food. Luke, Jamie, Erik and Hooks were inside as well, downstairs as AL was busy baking chocolate chip cookies. Hooks was sitting on the rack AL kept her large utensils and spatulas on with his face buried in the metal work bowl from one of the standing mixers, licking the leftover dough.

“That’s, what, his fifth bowl?” Luke asked. He was the only one of the guys allowed to not do anything. It was his party, after all.

“Second!” Hooks insisted, pulling away from the bowl, cookie dough on his nose.

“He’s right,” said AL, switching out the baking pans, placing the done cookies on the counter to be put away when cooled and freshly dished-out dough into the oven. “I’ve only made two batches so far. Great Orion, I hate baking.”

“Then why are ye doin’ it?” asked Jamie, who was busy mixing some onion dip.

“Tradition.” AL said, leaning against the counter, waiting on her timer to beep. “Birthdays, holidays and stuff…cookies are what I make. You know that. My buddy, Alton, gave me the recipe.”

“Eek!” Hooks yelped as he tipped the bowl a little too far and it fell over his head. Peering out from beneath it, he said, “Aren’t you getting cakes, too?” He smiled gratefully as Erik, who had stopped mixing the macaroni salad and lifted the bowl off the critter, handing it back to him so he could continue cleaning with his tongue.

AL nodded, putting the cooled cookies into a container. “Yep. From my buddy, Duff. I’m not telling you what of, though,” she said pointedly at Luke, brandishing her disher at him as she put more dough onto the pans. “Doc doesn’t know, either.”

“We’re each getting one?”

“Of course.” She switched out more dough as her timer beeped. “One of the guys’ll pick ’em up later. Not you,” she emphasized to the Jedi.

“Yes, dear,” he replied.
