Chapter Four: The Plan
Ten days later, Medicus finally received word that his presence was needed and returned to the meadow. Hooks was there to meet him and told him that Tommy had a plan.
“Oh, really?” said the stallion, interested. “Well, let’s go see what’s going on.”
Medicus and Hooks journeyed back to AL’s house. Hooks peeked through a window and called, “We’re here!”
Luke looked up from Order of the Phoenix. “I’m at the last chapter!”
“The book will be there when we’re done, Luke,” said Tommy matter-of-factly.
The Jedi sighed. “You’re right. Lisa’s more important.” He put the book down.
Medicus detached his cart and entered through the double front doors. “You sent for me?” he asked while Hooks jumped down onto the couch Luke was sitting on and plopped himself right there beside the Jedi.
“Yeah,” said Tommy. “We were wondering…since you can heal things…can you make them sick as well?”
Medicus blinked. “Why would I want to do that?”
“Lisa,” said the Doctor. “Our Lisa is very angry, and one thing that will soften her is fussing over one of us. As she knows when we’re lying, even when we’re not linked, one of us needs to truly become ill.”
“Nothing serious, of course,” said Tommy as Medicus pondered their words.
“Please, Medicus?” pleaded Adam. “She cursed at us before. And that’s not like her.”
This shocked the stallion. “No, most definitely it isn’t. All right. I’ll help you.”
“Great!” said Tommy.
Medicus nodded. “Give me a few days to gather ingredients and make it up. What did you have in mind?”
Data stood up from the chair he’d been sitting on. “This,” he said, showing Medicus the clipboard Tommy had.
Medicus read it. “Mm, all right. Yes.” He nodded. “Doable. Would one of you mind putting that list in my cart? It’s just outside.”
“I will,” said Tommy, taking the sheet of paper off the clipboard and walking outside with it.
The Doctor was suddenly very nervous. “Erm, it won’t be too serious, will it?”
“No,” said Medicus. “Of course not. More likely to feel like a bad case of the flu.”
“Lisa’ll probably come to you to ask to examine him, you know.” Adam said.
“I realize that,” he replied. “Don’t worry.”
“All set,” said Tommy, coming back.
“I’ll be back in a few days,” said Medicus, turning to the door.
Tommy said, “We owe you one.”
