Chapter Three: Repercussions and Destinations

The Final Passing was a ritual performed by the Alnilam unicorns when someone dies. They use their magic to transform the body into energy. They believed this process sets the soul free and allows to travel to Above, their word for the afterlife.

After the ritual, when the crowd had dispersed, only Medicus and Lisa were left in the small meadow. She was barely holding herself together, not really processing what was going on. Medicus examined her while she sat there on the grass, pressing his horn to her forehead and chest.

“Lisa…how did that happen?”

She merely grunted in response.

“Lisa, your healing power is gone. When did that happen?”

She shrugged. He could tell he wasn’t going to get any answers from her. Instead, he went through his medical knowledge, and realized, unfortunately, that he could do nothing for her, either.

The stallion sighed. “Lisa, please try to relax. He wouldn’t want you to grieve.”

Lisa sniffled. “No…” she said quietly. “He wants me to find Jack.”

Medicus blinked. He had never met Captain Jack Harkness, the man from the 51st century who had briefly traveled with the Doctor, Lisa and Rose. They’d thought he’d been left on the Game Station in the year 200,100, but he’d used his Time Agent Vortex Manipulator to return to the 21st century. He eventually wound up in Cardiff, Wales and ran the Torchwood Institute there. He’d come back during the Doctor’s Tenth incarnation, which was why Lisa found it odd that he’d ask her to reunite with him in his past. But, well…if the Doctor insisted…

“He said Jack needed me…”

“Then I think you should go to him.”

She looked at him, into his soft eyes.

“You can’t grieve forever, and he wouldn’t want you to. If he wants you to find this Captain Jack, if he insists that he needs you, then you should do as he requested.”

She didn’t want to admit that he made sense. Finally nodding, she said, “Okay…I just have to do a few things, first…then I’ll go back to Earth.”
