Chapter Two: The Loss

Lisa’s body locked up and she started to shake. Her body started to glow a pale orange as pain wracked throughout every pore of her being. The glow eventually traveled up into her hands, where it, along with the pain, expelled from her fingertips.

She was left lying on the floor, breathless and sweating. His lifeless body was lying propped against her, beginning to turn cold. She blinked back tears and slowly stood up, easing him down and arranging his limbs so it looked as if he was simply sleeping. She went to the center console to program the controls to the destination she had in mind.

Lisa wrapped her arms tightly around her as the rotor slowly began its rise and fall. She watched it for a few long moments before her eyes roved to the still form on the floor. She couldn’t believe it was finally the end for him. They’d been together for so long…she couldn’t even feel him anymore. The link had been severed when he died.

She also felt strange, as if a piece of her was missing. It wasn’t just that emptiness that comes from losing a loved one…it was deeper.

She didn’t have time to mull it over, for the time rotor had stopped as the machine touched down.

Sniffling, Lisa whispered, “I’ll be back…” to the form on the ground even though she knew he couldn’t respond. Exiting the machine, she stepped onto the multicolored grass of her home planet, Alnilam. Amazingly, it had landed exactly where she wanted: the side of her house. This is where it would remain forever after.

Quickly, she spread her golden-yellow wings and took to the lavender sky, heading towards the larger meadow where she knew the one she needed would be.

Lisa landed as soon as she saw him: the 18-hand unicorn stallion named Medicus. He was at the stream, alone, gathering the clear water into vials. His cart was standing not far away.

“Medicus!” she screeched as she made the hard landing, nearly crashing into a tangle of limbs.

“Lisa?” he asked in the unicorn language, concerned. “What’s wrong?”

“The Doctor…he’s gone…he wanted me to bring the TARDIS somewhere safe…I brought them here…”

“Both…?”

He really didn’t wait for an explanation. He nudged her into standing and hitched himself to the cart. Gently pushing her with his nose, he coaxed her into leading him to the waiting TARDIS and opening the door.

Medicus had to leave his cart outside, and was barely able to fit through the doors himself, but the look on Lisa’s face made him try.

Stepping gingerly on the metal grates that made up the floor, he made his way to the prone body on the far side of the console. He touched his horn to his forehead and both his hearts. His dark eyes closed in sadness. Death was something he couldn’t heal.

“I’m so sorry, Lisa…it’s beyond my powers.”

She wasn’t really listening, so overcome with grief as she was. He went to where she was sitting just outside the doors and nuzzled her with his velvet nose, blowing gently into her hair.

“If you like, I can gather the others to perform the Final Passing…it’s the least we can do.”

Lisa didn’t answer, so Medicus took it upon himself to organize it. He stepped outside and was about to walk away when his senses noticed something about her seemed…off.

“Lisa, are you all right? No, I don’t mean it that way…” he added quickly at the withering look she shot him. “Something’s happened to you.”

She gave him a blank look, confused and too overcome with grief.

The stallion decided to worry about it later. He had other things to do.

End chapter two.
