Chapter Eight: A Plan of Attack
Dalek Caan was seething. Not only was the Ka Faraq Gatri here, so were two versions of that infernal winged humanoid. Instead of being easier, their presence complicated things greatly.
Caan returned to the junkyard to contemplate a strategy, although not where his equipment was. If the Doctor tracked him before, he’d find him again. Disposing of that meddling Time Lord and his companions was Priority One. Unfortunately, doing so wasn’t simple. Many Daleks before Caan have tried and failed.
Perhaps he could set up an ambush. The Doctor would surely come running when he detected the Dalek. All Caan needed to do was make sure he found him when all was ready.
The first thing he did was activate his slave. Tannen had left, but the signal that Caan fed through the control chip behind the human’s ear would draw him to the Dalek’s location.
The next thing he did was gather the equipment he needed to make a small, but powerful, explosive. When Tannen arrived, they began piecing it together. Caan also started on the construction of a generator that would emanate the same energy as the Time Corridor. That would lure the Doctor to him.
“Slave,” Caan addressed Tannen when they were ready. “Give me a location where the Doctor may be ambushed.”
Caan hadn’t given Tannen much information and, though the Dalek knew he didn’t want to do anything, the human had no choice. The control chip would also exterminate him if he didn’t obey.
“There’s an abandoned mine on the outskirts of town. No one’s gone there for years.”
“Excellent. Bring the equipment.”
Caan elevated and Tannen drove to the mine. They set up the machinery in one of the side tunnels, placing the explosives strategically for the most damage. The Dalek then activated the controls. The circuits would need some time to warm up, however, Caan would use that time wisely.
When the Doctor arrived, he would be ready.
