Chapter Three: Recovery
The downside to AL’s parties wasn’t the clean-up. She had Clark and Data for that. No, it was the post-party recovery when all the food they’d eaten finally hit rock bottom. Clark and Data were lucky they couldn’t get upset stomachs.
“Ugh…” said Luke. “Why do we do this to ourselves every single time?”
“Because we’re gluttons for punishment,” said Jesse.
“That’s your fault,” said AL. “No one told you to eat that much. There’s nothing wrong with leftovers.”
“Looks who’s talking,” said Adam. “You finished off the pulled pork and some of the ribs.”
“Pork rules…”
“Right…” said Luke. “Dex and Gary still asleep?”
“Yeah,” she answered. “Dex’s metabolism is different than humans. He’ll sleep of the indigestion, then Tommy’ll take him home. And Gary’s just full.” She giggled. “He’ll go home later, too.”
“I’m surprised they didn’t ask to move in,” said Jesse.
“Nah, I don’t think they will. Well, Gary might. But there aren’t enough pictures of Dex around to make a decent layout.”
“Speaking of, are the Doctors going to get the electricity working anytime soon?” asked Adam.
“Pfft…” said AL. “They’ll probably try, but I think they’ll make it worse before they make it better. Maybe I’ll make ’em get more fuses at this rate.”
“Good idea,” said Luke. “They’re going to fry something eventually.”
“You know this and I know this. Hell, even Erik knows this and he never leaves his room.”
“That’s another thing…” said Jesse. “It’s not healthy for him to spend all this time in his room.”
“Yeah, I know,” said AL. “But give him a break. He comes out for parties and meals. His birthday’s next month, so we’ll let him be for now. In the meantime, we have Erik and Adam’s birthdays next month plus the Doctor’s anniversary to plan for.”
It was obvious that they were just going to have a repeat of the events next month. It was something to look forward to.
