Chapter Two: So Many Birthday Boys and Not Enough Stuff

A couple hours later, the party was in full swing. Everyone, even Erik, was outside – though he stuck to the shade by the house. Music was blaring from the speakers the Doctors had set up and, this time, they didn’t blow the circuit breakers.

Prince Dex of Edenoi and Gary Hobson from Earth were enjoying themselves. Not only were they celebrating their birthdays – albeit a little late, though, then again, all five of them were – but they were also spending time with AL. Naturally, that was something all her guys enjoyed doing.

Hooks and Luke were raiding the buffet table while Data, Adam and Jack were playing cards. AL was keeping an eye on Erik and on the Doctors, who couldn’t seem to keep their sonic screwdrivers away from anything mechanical. They were still tweaking the sound system. Everyone expected the power to go out again. It was just a matter of time.

Tommy was hanging out with Dex, catching up on the news, as they were old friends. In fact, AL had met Dex while with Tommy. Clark, Jesse and Jamie were playing with a dart board AL had procured from who-knows-where.

The music suddenly fizzled and died. All eyes turned on the four Doctors, who chorused in unison, “Sorry.”

AL rolled her eyes. “I guess we should bring out the cakes, then. Jack, Data, Clark, Jesse and Adam, go get ’em. We’ll blindfold the birthday boys.”

Everybody got moving. After a few minutes, Tommy, Luke, Gary, Jamie and Dex were blindfolded and sitting in front of their cakes. On a count of three, their blindfolds were removed.

“Oh, wow!” said Tommy.

“Aye, very good!” said Jamie.

“Lisa, this is wonderful,” said Dex.

“Very imaginative,” said Gary.

“That’s a new one,” said Luke.

“Okay, guys,” said AL. “You’re gonna blow out the candles in the order of your birthdays.” She pulled out a piece of paper. “Tommy’s was the fourth. You’re first.”

Tommy blew out his candles. His cake was shaped like the Dragonzord, his very first Zord when he became a Power Ranger.

“Gary’s the seventeenth. You’re next.”

Gary blew out the candles. His cake was a newspaper, dated tomorrow, with a headline that read LOCAL BIRTHDAY BOY OVERDOSES ON CAKE.

“Jamie’s the twenty-second. Go ahead.”

Jamie blew out the candles on his pipe-shaped cake. He’d been a piper before traveling with the Doctor.

“Dex is the twenty-fourth. Go on.”

Dex’s cake was in the shape of Edenoi before the poisonous gasses took over the planet. He blew out the candles.

“And, last but not least, Luke’s is the twenty-fifth.”

This time, Luke’s cake was a lightsaber with a remote droid. It even had a frosted laser beam between them. He blew out the candles.

“Let’s eat!”
