Chapter One: Set Prep

Early October 2007 on Alnilam. While the calendars stated it was two weeks into autumn, the atmospheric disturbances were making the summer-like weather stay. This was a good thing, for AL and the guys were planning one of the biggest birthday parties they’d ever thrown. September had apparently yielded more than just Luke’s birthday –Tommy, Jamie, Gary and Dex – the latter two who didn’t live there but were coming later on – had all been born in September. As only Luke’s birthday was normally celebrated, AL decided to throw a big party for all five of them.

“So why didn’t Tommy and Jamie say their birthdays were also in September after all this time?” Luke asked. He was technically not supposed to be helping set up, however, he felt he should since they’d only been celebrating his birthday after all this time when they should have included the other four. He was unraveling the streamers Clark and Data were hanging on the side of the house.

“Beats the hell outta me,” said AL. she and Adam were covering the tables. “No one mentioned their birthdays ’cept Clark last month.”

“Mine’s in November,” said Adam.

“Well, yeah, we know that now,” AL said. “Erik’s is in November, too. The point is we only just discovered this. Who forgets their own birthday? So just do what I do.”

“What’s that?” asked Clark.

“Blame my alter ego.”

There was a collective chuckle and AL notices the four Doctors lugging giant cables from the TARDIS into the house.

“Do I even want to know what they’re doing?” Adam asked.

“Rigging…re-rigging, actually…the sound system to play outside.”

“Didn’t they blow the power last time?”

“Yup. I told them to leave it alone, but, no. They have to fix what isn’t broke.”

“That’s the Doctor for you,” said Luke. “All of them.”

“You know it.” AL looked at her watch. “Jack and Jesse should be leaving to pick up the cakes from Duff soon.”

“Am I allowed to ask what they’re of?” asked Luke.

“No.”

“Okay.”
