Chapter Two: Setting Up For the Party

On the second floor of AL’s house, in the game room, the pool table had been turned into a buffet table and all the rest of the games were pushed to the side to leave the hardwood floors bare.

Hooks and Luke were setting out the food and snacks while Clark, Data and OckDoc’s tentacles continued to move furniture and put up decorations while OckDoc himself was setting out the cups and plates. RL had gone back to her world.

Adam, Jesse and Jamie were tacking balloons and streamers to the wall. Tommy and VampDoc were laying out tablecloths over the flat areas to serves as tables and TeenDoc was poking around the Nintendo systems until VampDoc2 and DocWolf dragged him away.

Downstairs in the kitchen, AL, Erik and Doc10 were gathering food to bring upstairs. Erik still wasn’t comfortable around so many people, but he had no choice.

They went upstairs where they were greeted by OckDoc’s upper right tentacle, Verne, who was holding a bunch of balloons in his small pincer attachment.

Father needs more adhesive for these balloons, he said, buzzing, but only AL and Doc10 could hear him, other than OckDoc himself, due to them being telepathic.

“Tape, you mean?” AL said. “Go look in the desk drawer in the library. If not, it’s downstairs in my room.”

Okay. He wound away only to come back a second later. Where’s the library?

AL laughed. “Let me get up the stairs, will, you, and I’ll show you?”

Verne hovered to the side so he’d be out of the way and followed the trio over to the table they set the stuff on, then followed AL to the door to the library, entering and searching the desk drawers until he found what he was looking for.

“How we doin’?” she asked of the guys around her.

“Not bad,” said Adam.

“We’re almost done,” said Clark.

“Good. When we’re ready, I’ll get the Doctors in here.”

“Lisa,” OckDoc said, “I’m curious, if there are ten of them, why aren’t they all here?”

“That’ll happen on either the 45th or 50th anniversary,” she replied. “This is just their 43rd, so only my favorites get to come.”

“Well, thank you!” beamed Doc10, earning himself a grin.

“We all know the Doctors have always been her favorites of all of us,” said Luke.

AL blinked. “I never said that…”

“We hear you at night, Lisa,” Clark said.

“When we were linked and now,” said Adam.

The Docs all exchanged a look of amusement, though the tentacles looked confused.

“So, she does play favorites,” said VampDoc. “Just like Vic does.”

“I do not!” AL defended while Doc10 remained stubbornly silent.

“Lisa, please,” said Tommy. “We’ve been talking and we all shared one similar experience. When you go to sleep, your first thoughts are of the Doctor.”

“It’s okay, though,” said Luke. “We’re used to it.”

AL turned away so the guys couldn’t see her blush. “Anyway,” she said, “let me know when we’re done so I can get the Doctors in here.”

She fled the room, leaving the guys to simply smile knowingly and continue their tasks.
