Trivia and In-Jokes

About the Story:
All blog stories are in-jokes. I’d been planning on writing a party for the Doctor Who 45th anniversary. Between working two jobs and sleeping (and reading the Twilight series, but that’s beside the point), it was slow going, but I managed to get it posted before the debut of Robert’s new season of Dinner: Impossible on April 8th.

Chapter One:
It was sixteen minutes past five, Earth time, on…wait, we’ve done that already: The intro from More Than 30 Years in the TARDIS I’ve used previously in The Anniversary Party.

11:16AM: Would be 5:16PM in the UK where Doctor Who is filmed.

Duff: Duff Goldman from Ace of Cakes, who has been doing all of AL’s parties cakes.

Alton: Alton Brown, host of Good Eats.

Robert: As stated in the story, Robert Irvine was the host of Dinner: Impossible. He was replaced by Michael Symon, but got his job back and his episodes are going to air starting April 8th. Yes, also as stated in the story, AL does take credit for getting him his job back.

The vegetarians: Of the Doctors’ many companions throughout the years, I believe that only Peri (starting from “The Two Doctors” onward) and Mel were vegetarian.

Chapter Two:
Atmospheric disturbances: Since I made Alnilam and Earth time-synced, it had New Jersey-ish weather ’til I moved to North Carolina. Sometimes, though, a story may call for un-southern weather (like a freak snow storm, for example, though that’s happened nearly twice since I moved…neither me nor AL were happy), hence the unpredictable nature of the weather. :)

’mere: Came from one of comic Gabriel Iglesias’ bits about how when guys drink they can become one of three people: the “I love you” guy, the “I hate you” guy or the “ ’mere guy” (You know that guy, right? “HEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ’mere!”)

Chapter Three:
Victoria: My friend and Inspiration Fairy Flaming Trails. ClockworkDoc is one of her roll play Docs. I often borrow her boys for things.

Chapter Four:
John Benton: Well, Sgt. Benton’s first name was never mentioned in the show, but it was mentioned to be John, just like the actor who plays him (John Levine) in the spin-off video Wartime.

Chapter Five:
“I’m just enjoying the evening air.”: Paraphrasing Doc’s line from Back to the Future Part III.

MuseicalMarty: I just had the idea that Clockwork’s Marty should come to the party so Doc would be happy and give AL the perfect weather she wants. :) They don’t get to interact much in RP; only at the Inkwell, Doc’s bar given to him by V last year.

Chapter Six:
The real Cybermen: I’m talking Cybermen from classic Who, not the Cybus versions from New Who.

The Eleventh Doctor: Yeah, I originally started this story before Matt Smith was announced as the Eleventh Doctor. Once I saw who he was (and liked what I saw), I decided to put him in the story. He’s wearing what is shown in the photos from filming and the bit about his eyes is due to the fact that no one can give me a straight answer about their true color.

The guitar and saxophone: It was originally requested that Marty bring his guitar, but I forgot in the initial writing, so I added it later, also thinking that Doc have his sax, though V told me that he’s been out of practice for years.
