Chapter Three: Last Minute Things

AL came bursting into the house. “Robert!” she called. “How’s it goin’?”

He popped a piece of beef into her mouth. “Try this.”

The meat practically melted the moment she started chewing. “Wow,” she said around it. “Wow, that’s really good.”

“Good,” he said. “Now go do what you gotta do and let us work.”

“Yes, dear,” she said, leaving the kitchen and picking up her clipboard. Checking the clock, it was now 2PM. She would be meeting Medicus, Quade and Daystar at the Gate in an hour and a half to wait for the guests to arrive. No, it’s unsure of how the unicorns tell time, but they manage, so that was good enough for AL.

“Okay…” she said more to herself than to anyone nearby to hear. “Now I need to make a phone call.”

Picking up her cell phone, AL dialed and waited as the other line rang.

“Hello?” the voice on the other end said.

“Yo, V. How are ya?”

“Fine, Lisa. What’s up? How’s the party?” said Victoria, creator of the VampDoc stories, amongst others.

“Good, good. Crazy planning, but things are falling into place. Hey, reason I’m calling…I need to talk to Clockwork a sec.”

“Sure, hang on. Doc! No, not you, you.”

AL stifled a giggle as ClockworkDoc came on the line. “Hello?”

“Doc!” she said. “Hey, it’s Lisa. Er, AL. I need a favor.”

“Certainly. What do you need?”

“I need you to come to the party I’m having for the Doctors’ anniversary and help Tempest and Mistral on the weather front. Don’t worry. You’ll get fed. I just have to make sure nothing goes wrong with this thing.”

“Of course,” he replied. “I’d be happy to help. When do you want me over?”

“Three thirty,” she said, calling over to the kitchen, “Robert! One more to the total number of people!”

There was a groan. “You’re killin’ me, Lisa!”

“Love you, too!” she said and ClockworkDoc laughed. “I’ll have someone meet you so Woodhorn and Janis Thorn don’t throw a shit fit.”

Clockwork chuckled. “All right, Lisa. I’ll see you then.”

“Thanks, Doc. See ya.” AL hung the phone and grinned. One last thing to worry about.
